THE STAFF Dr. Drew D. Weigner, DVM, ABVP
Dr. Weigner is Hospital Director of The Cat Doctor which he founded in February,
1987. He graduated from the University of Florida in 1982 and has practiced
in Atlanta since 1983. Dr. Weigner was the first veterinarian to achieve
board certification as a specialist in feline medicine from the American
Board of Veterinary Practitioners. He is a member of the American Association
of Feline Practitioners, the American Veterinary Medical Association, and
the American Animal Hospital Association. He also holds degrees in Microbiology
and Environmental Sciences and is a Charter Member of the American Animal
Hospital Association's EXCEL Program, signifying excellence in clinical
medicine. He also is a past President of the Academy of Feline Practitioners.
Dr. Weigner often is asked, "Why do you specialize in cats?" His response: "Maybe, like a cat, it's my natural curiosity. There just isn't a whole lot known about feline medicine; it's still in its infancy. In veterinary school, we were taught to treat cats as 'small dogs'. They now know that's just not true."
Dr. Nancy R. Stumpf, DVM
Although Dr. Stumpf always had a strong love for animals, it wasn't until
later in life that she decided to become a veterinarian. After graduating
from the New York Institute of Technology in 1976 with a degree in Business
Administration, she worked for J.C. Penney as an assistant buyer for several
years. Subsequent jobs included advertising, sales, and customer service.
With the encouragement and support of her husband, Gerry, Dr. Stumpf decided to change career paths and pursue a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine, ultimately graduating from North Carolina State University Veterinary School in 1994. Dr. Stumpf believes that her diverse business background has helped in her ability to communicate and relate to people. "In veterinary medicine, you not only must love animals, but also you really must truly enjoy interacting with people. It's this interaction with clients and their pets, helping to preserve and strengthen the bond between them. That's what makes this job so rewarding."
